Sir Robert Anderson (1841–1918) was a distinguished Christian author, Bible teacher and British intelligence officer. Born in Dublin, Ireland, into a Christian family of Scottish descent, he trusted in the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation at the age of nineteen and soon began preaching the gospel. Educated at Trinity College, Dublin, he trained as a barrister before entering government service. In 1888, he became Assistant Commissioner and head of the Criminal Investigation Department at Scotland Yard, serving until his retirement in 1901, when he was knighted.
Alongside his demanding professional career, Anderson devoted himself to the study and exposition of God's Word. Associated with the Christian Brethren, he became a prolific writer, particularly on biblical prophecy, Christian doctrine and apologetics. His influential books include The Coming Prince, The Silence of God, The Gospel and Its Ministry, The Lord from Heaven and Types in Hebrews. His writings continue to encourage careful study of Scripture and a deeper appreciation of biblical truth.
