8 Kingdom Parables

This book considers the Kingdom Parables as told by the Lord Jesus in Matthew chapter 13, a chapter which has interested readers of Scripture right down through the centuries. The Lord Jesus clusters eight short, memorable parables together which have often been referred to as “the parables of the Kingdom”.

The purpose of this little book is to encourage the reader to think more deeply about a familiar section of Scripture. These parables exalt the person of Christ and are key to understanding the major Kingdom themes of the Bible, a subject which should be of interest to all believers, as subjects of the King. We are sons of the Kingdom, and a sense of our calling and privilege should grip our souls.

The subject of the Kingdom is a vast one, and the introductory chapters of this book explain the Kingdom of God in its initial and final fulfilment. They also consider the meaning of the Kingdom in the present age and why the Lord described these parables as the “mysteries of the Kingdom”. The eight parables are then examined in consecutive chapters. Three helpful appendices conclude the book, outlining seven features of the Millennial Kingdom, seven reasons why the Church will not pass through the Tribulation, and the distinction between the expressions “the Kingdom of Heaven” and “the Kingdom of God”.
