Collection: Thomas Newberry

Thomas Newberry (c. 1810–1901) was a respected English Bible scholar, teacher and Christian author closely associated with the Brethren movement. Raised in a Christian home, he trusted in the Lord Jesus Christ as his Saviour at an early age through the influence of his mother and elder sister. He later joined the assembly at Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, and devoted much of his life to the careful study and exposition of God's Word.

From 1840, Newberry undertook an extensive study of the Scriptures in their original Hebrew and Greek languages. His most influential work, The Englishman's Bible, later known as the Newberry Reference Bible, became a valued resource for generations of Bible students. His other writings include Types of the Tabernacle, The Parables of Our Lord and The Temples of Solomon and Ezekiel. He also travelled widely teaching Scripture and contributed to Christian periodicals. Remembered for his reverence for the Bible and scholarly yet devotional approach, he went to be with the Lord on 16 January 1901.
