The Merits of eBooks
Printed books vs. eBooks. Which is better? Personally, I find that there is nothing quite like an afternoon spent browsing a bookshop, picking up a physical book, and settling down with it. A book you can hold, turn the pages, feel, and dare I say smell, the paper of. However, despite my loyalty to printed books, I cannot deny the myriad of merits that can be attributed to eBooks.
I can’t count the times I’ve been waiting for someone or stuck in a queue, where I wished I’d had a book on me. Now I always have one downloaded on my phone for emergencies. With daylight hours still being slightly shorter than we’d like, having an eBook on whatever device you have means that you can still read on long, post-sunset car journeys. Stuck for weekend reading? Download one of our eBooks and get stuck in without even having to get up off the sofa!
Maybe (most likely) I don’t need to sell you on eBooks. They’re portable and lightweight, they can hold thousands of books (unlike my handbag, unfortunately), downloadable, accessible at any time … You can even adjust brightness and font size to perfectly suit your needs. What’s not to love?
We currently have 15 (and counting) books available electronically, so keep your eye out for more as we publish them alongside our physical books. Scroll to the bottom of this post to see a full list of eBooks that are currently available, and how to access them on whichever platform you prefer.
Our latest eBooks are the 2-volume series written by Jack Hay: ‘A Simple Guide to Bible Study’ and ‘A Simple Guide to Prayer’, which present the basics behind important principles relevant to all Christians.
The Bible made us “wise unto salvation” when we were sinners, and it continues to be indispensable for our spiritual development. The first book goes out with the prayer that even those who are not naturally studious will form the habit of digging a little bit deeper, unearthing spiritual treasures to enrich their lives.
Most of us would acknowledge that the time that we spend in prayer is often limited, our commitment to it is half-hearted, and it is only in an emergency that we become really earnest and persistent in praying.
In the Christian life, Bible reading and prayer are inseparable, for time spent alone with God is a strong foundation for our spiritual lives. The second book will provide simple guidelines on how to pray, drawing examples from various characters throughout the bible.
