In Pakistan, for the average person, life is just so hard, and it’s incredible to see where some people call home—tents etc. Those of us who live in comfortable, safe, dry homes should be extremely grateful and appreciative.\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp\u003eOverall, it is amazing to see people’s resilience, love of life, appreciation of kindness, and strong sense of family and belonging. What have they got to live for? I suggest that for many, they have their sight set on another world.\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp\u003eThe Bible says that no matter what type of home life we have in this world, there is the prospect of a better home in the next. In fact, the Lord Jesus Christ is recorded as telling His disciples that He was going to prepare a place for them. In that conversation, He indicated that He was going back to heaven, His Father’s house and that he would look forward to welcoming them to live there with Him.\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp\u003eI have a feeling that the preparation He was talking about did not involve ‘bricks and mortar’ but that by His death, burial, and resurrection, He was making life in heaven available to all. He was going to die for sin and suffer, the just for the unjust (us) to bring us to God.\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp\u003eMany of my readers will not be convinced that the Bible is relevant to them. But, as a Christian, I am convinced that the Bible is more than just an interesting book or a book of ancient or historical value. Instead, I believe that the Bible is a unique book vital for every human being to understand why they are in the world and why they need a relationship with God.\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp\u003eAs I finish, let me take you back to the words of the Lord Jesus. As well as promising that He was going back to heaven (the inference being that He had come from heaven to this planet in the first place), He was making it clear that He is the only way for every human being to get to know God (His Father) and to be in a fit condition to occupy heaven on the other side of death.\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp\u003eSo, Jesus said—‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. It’s a red warning, “There is wrath”.\r\n\r\nThe Bible Answer\r\n\r\nSometimes severe weather events can be avoided - the wind changes direction, its force decreases and people are spared the full force of the storm. God’s wrath against sin is fixed and the storm of judgment will come, but the core message of the Bible is all about God’s wonderful rescue plan. It tells of how sinners can be forgiven and escape eternal punishment. God’s justice demands that our sins are punished, so how can He forgive us and still be a just God? The answer - God’s justice was satisfied when His Son Jesus Christ died on a cross “for our sins” (1 Corinthians 15.3). He loved us ... He gave His Son (John 3.16). But on this day they realised that their problem was far too serious to fix themselves. They needed to be rescued.\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp\u003eMany people imagine that they can ‘fix’ the problem of their sin by being kind, generous or even religious. But the Bible makes it clear that good deeds will never be enough: ‘We are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags’ (Isaiah 64:6).\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp\u003eLike the fishermen that day, we cannot save ourselves; each of us need to be rescued.\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eA Saviour Came:\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\r\nAs my Dad and I listened to the radio we were relieved to hear that a rescue helicopter was being sent out from Stornoway. The helicopter located the fishing boat and airlifted all the men on board to safety. The vessel was lost to the sea.\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp\u003eA boat can be replaced, but the souls of men and women are eternal and precious: ‘For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? The punishment of death we each deserved to pay because of our sin was paid by Jesus Christ in our place.
